 Caravan map - Thornthorpe

Just returned from two weeks at Thornthorpe - been looking forward to this for months and this was what kept us going during 'lockdown'! How lovely it was to be in such a peaceful setting once again - with all that space around us and yet so close to all the beautiful visitor attractions in North Yorkshire. It was reassuring that Andrew and Tracey have done everything possible to make this site as 'covid-secure' as possible, with hand sanitisers placed in all communal areas. The toilet block is closed at the moment but with excellent facilities in our van, that wasn't a problem at all. Most of the caravan pitches now have their own water supply, so being able to 'plumb in' was most convenient and, of course, avoided the need to continually have to touch communal taps. Excellent dog walking, across the road from the site - on the cross-country course (when the horses aren't using it) and all the attractions of Malton - a lovely old market town only 2 miles away, make this "Adults Only" site my favourite of any we have been to throughout the country. Looking forward to our return in August.

This is a beautiful small site in an old orchard, next to a farmhouse with a small stream meandering its way along one side. Caravan pitches are level and spacious, the toilet block is brand new, spotless and actually a converted smokehouse, new washing up/waste facilities are situated outside and around the back. Dogs on leads on site but large fields and a long walk are only over the road. 5 mins from Malton, 30 mins to York or the coast means it is very well located, Castle Howard and the fantastic Scampston Walled Garden are also short drives away.

We are amazed (and pleased !) there are so few people here, it's not yet well known but should be top of the list if you are looking to stay in the area. The owners are so friendly and take time to speak with guests each day checking everything is fine.

Other small sites need to look to this place as a standard to be achieved, like all the others on site have said, we'll be back.

We've been camping for over 40 years. We started with a tent, progressed to a camper van and now we've had a caravan for seven years. In all that time I can honestly say this is one of the best sites we've been on. There's no razmatazz, no shop but just a lovely small, adult-only site, which is everything we wanted. It's quiet and peaceful, lovely and flat with great access for the 'van. The shower and toilet block is beautiful and very new. We slept like logs and heard no farm noise as the main yard majors on livery for horses. The site is situated in a lovely field with beautiful trees around. Malton is around two miles away and has all the shops you'll need. We ate out once at a local pub - the Jolly Farmers - and it was amazing and so good I asked to speak to the chef! I haven't mentioned Andrew and family who run the site: you will NOT find a friendlier or nicer man running a campsite. The site is ideally situated for visiting the North York Moors and the coast. I could go on but by now you will have gathered how much we loved being on this site for seven nights. Arrive by driving south out of Malton (past the Lidl store) and turn left after a couple of miles. Look for signboard that has been erected about 1/2 on the left after that.
